“Kids have what I call a built-in hypocrisy antenna that comes up and blocks out what you’re saying when you’re being a hypocrite.” – Ben Carson, scientist
“Meet the kid who went on strike against climate change!”
Back in the middle of the last century, there was a TV show hosted by Art Linkletter where he would ask children intriguing questions and broadcast their amusing answers which were based on their world view. It was a big hit at the time! It was called, “Kids Say The Darndest Things!”
Since these days we seem to spend more time giving children labels and medications than listening to them, it was refreshing to hear Greta Thunberg’s thoughts. Greta’s claim to fame is aptly captured in the the heading on her Ted Talk, “Meet the kid who went on strike against climate change!”
What makes Greta’s comments even more interesting is she has been carrying several, well intended, psychological labels including, depressed, autistic, obsessive compulsive, depressed, Asperger syndrome and selective mutism.
In August 2018, Greta Thunberg started a school strike for the climate outside the Swedish Parliament that has since spread all over the world and now involves over 100,000 schoolchildren. The movement is now called Fridays For Future.
Greta has spoken at climate rallies in Stockholm, Helsinki, Brussels and London. In December she attended the United Nations COP24 in Katowice, Poland, where she addressed the Secretary-General and made a plenary speech that went viral and was shared many million times around the globe.
In January 2019 she was invited to the World Economic Forum in Davos where her speeches again made a worldwide impact. She has been named as one of the worlds most influential teens by TIME magazine.
Whatever your position on our climate’s evolution, have a look and try not to be touched by her youthful wisdom and inspired caring as she shares her thoughts and beliefs about the challenges faced by humanity. It reminded me of that famous saying “Out of the mouth of babes…”
Let me know what your thoughts on her comments,
“Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings hast thou ordained strength.”
– King James Bible, Psalms 8:2
