At birth, you breathed in…then…you breathed out! And, you’ve never stopped balancing events since!
“… how my body needed one, and then, the other, within that moment, for my survival.”
I’ve been asthmatic since I was 3 years of age, over 69 years so far. I remember struggling to breathe late at night, in the pleasant, quietness yet unpleasant, aloneness of those times.
But, my asthma saved my life! And, it did it in, at least, two ways! Firstly, I got early and frequent practice at finding and appreciating the two sides of breathing…its’ duality…the out breath and the in breath. And, how my body needed one, and then, the other, within that moment, for my survival.
Secondly, it motivated me to look for other dualities in my life. And, I found them everywhere. Both in moments of pleasure and moments of pain, moments of joy and moments of sorrow.
So, seeing and hearing Kate Bowler’s brilliant perspective on having stage IV cancer while in her mid thirties and raising her new child, made perfect sense. See if it doesn’t for you?
It’s entitled, “Everything happens for a reason” — and other lies I’ve loved!” Check it out. It will help you put your own life in perspective. And, please send me your thoughts.
