I bet you don’t know how empathy and mathematics are related?
“Without mathematics, there’s nothing you can do. Everything around you is mathematics. Everything around you is numbers.” – Shakuntala Devi, writer
“focused accelerated learning…”
The best definition of therapy I have come across is, “focused accelerated learning.” The next logical question people ask is, ‘focused accelerated learning’ is about what exactly?
I have often thought it was about broadening a person’s view of themselves and their world…really to see themselves and their world from other perspectives.
I had read mathematics is ‘the language of nature.’ I wish someone had told me that when I was in grade school because I think it would have engendered more respect and better grades from me for the subject.
“Mathematics is the art of giving the same name to different things.”
– Henri Poincare, mathematician
I never noticed how therapy was tied to mathematics. Now, I stand corrected. Having watched Roger Antonsen’s brief Ted Talk “Math is the hidden secret to understanding the world!,” I am humbled by his creative genius.
“Mathematics knows no races or geographic boundaries; for mathematics, the cultural world is one country.”
– David Hilbert, mathematician
Roger Antonsen is a logician, mathematician, computer scientist, researcher, inventor, author, lecturer, science communicator and public speaker at the University of Oslo.
He is also engaged in various forms of science communication and outreach and interested in most topics related to mathematics, computer science and philosophy. His vision is to communicate science differently, to inspire creative thinking and to remove the common misconceptions about mathematics and computer science.
“Mathematics is the most beautiful and most powerful creation of the human spirit.”
– Stefan Banach
I think his vision has much to offer anyone seeking to understand themselves, their world and especially the focused accelerated learning that is involved in every therapeutic intervention. Have a look and see how you can use his insights in your world. I think you will find his perspective both insightful and empowering.
“Pure mathematics is, in its way, the poetry of logical ideas.” – Albert Einstein, physicist
