Do you think outside the box?

“…human sexuality is a spectrum of diversity….”
Our environment, and the people in it, are continually challenging us to broaden our perception of ourselves and others…to open up to new perspectives. But, it can be scary and loaded with risks.
But, since we cannot get dumber, only smarter, by each moment of our existence, our very biology and our mind is curious about anything new…anything that is novel to us. In recent times we have been broadening our perceptions of human sexuality. We have realized human sexuality is a spectrum of diversity, rather than an either/or scenario.
This evolution of our perceptions and thinking was brought home to me when I saw Emily Quinn’s Ted Talk, entitled, “The way we think about biological sex is wrong!” Emily describes herself as “a ballsy intersex activist who uses humour and storytelling to create a more welcoming world for people who don’t fit in a box.”
At age 10, Emily learned she was intersex…as are 2-3% of humans…millions and millions of people! Doctors told her not to tell anyone, as they poked and prodded her. She was lonely and ashamed. She needed someone to tell her she was OK.
Fourteen years later, she discovered an intersex support group and met hundreds of intersex people who endured trauma like her. She decided she needed to do something about it. She starting using her skills and work to do just that.
Emily has become both a creative force and global advocate driving us to evolve our perception of human sexuality…to get us thinking outside the box!
Emily is funny, engaging and wise. She adds another dimension to how shame can motivate us to grow beyond our wildest dreams and serve humanity. Check her out, you won’t regret it!
